New regional tourism board takes oath into office

Tacloban City - The new set of officers composing the Eastern Visayas Tourism Board (EVTB) took their oath of office during the induction ceremonies held at Hotel Alejandro on January 27, this year in Tacloban City.
Dr. Aurora A. Villarente, the newly elected chairperson of the EVTB, said that the board is bent on upbeating tourism programs in Region 8. She also took note that elected provincial and local officials expressed interest in providing assistance to whatever the board will undertake.

Undersecretary Ma. Victoria Jasmin, undersecretary for Tourism Regulations, Coordination and Resource Generation, served as the keynote speaker for the event and led the induction ceremonies.

Chairman Villarente is also the chairperson of Leyte Council for Tourism, Culture and Arts. Manager Glenn Vallecera of the Philippine Airlines serves as the vice-chairman while Ludette Ruiz of travel and tours sector was elected Secretary.

The post of the treasurer is held by Eugene Tan of Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry while Northern Samar Tourism Council chairman Sunday Lavin is the Business Manager. Two information officers were elected. Eppie dela Cruz of Eastern Samar Tourism Council will serve Samar Islands while Maasin City Tourism Council chairman Fr. Amien Borneo will serve Leyte Islands.

The board will be composed Southern Leyte Governor Damian Mercado, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan-delos Santos, Calbayog Mayor Reynaldo Uy, Naval Mayor Susan Parilla, Borongan Mayor Fe Abunda, Catarman Mayor Rolando Carpio, Ormoc City Mayor Eric Codilla and Biliran Tourism Council chairman Dr. Cecile Espina.

Villarente said that will the concerted efforts of the officers and the all-out support of the local government units, tourism in the region will reach greater heights. “We still have much to offer to the world,” she said
